Shirley Elizabeth Piha was a mother to five and grandmother of 12 who self taught her creative skill to paint in her mid-40's. She started with simple paintings of colorful flowers using oil paints, she then began painting local images of her family's favorite destinations, restaurants, parks, beaches and memorable places. Shirley Elizabeth Piha was a mother to five and grandmother of 12 who self taught her creative skill to paint in her mid-40's. She started with simple paintings of colorful flowers using oil paints, she then began painting local images of her family's favorite destinations, restaurants, parks, beaches and memorable places. Shirley gifted several of her paintings to relatives and friends as memories of places they visited. She sold originals and lithographs in Balboa and Newport Beach art galleries. After many experiments with oil paint and acrylic paint, Shirley settled on acrylic for her go-to paint. Her studio was in her home and on her deck overlooking the pacific ocean in Balboa, CA where she would set up an easel and start with a sketch followed by days and weeks of creating her unique style of art.
